The Pre-Convention: ASEAN Youth Leaders Summit was convened on 7th August until 10th August, 2014 at Grand Season Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This pre-convention that gather 141 participants from ASEAN, aimed to disseminate knowledge on ASEAN Community 2015.

The Opening Keynote Address in opening ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister, Ministry International Trade and Industry. Mr. Mohammed Maliki Mohammed Rapiee, President of Malaysian Youth Council was also present to give welcoming remarks.

Tan Sri Datuk Seri Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar, Chairman of The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and former Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs, along with Prof Madya Dr Jastwan Singh, Department of Strategic and International Studies, University of Malaya. Mr. Hasnul Haniff Harun moderated this session, where the discussion evolved from the historical and political perspective. The session also discuss about the nonconventional securities issues.

In the second session of ASEAN Economic Transformation was delivered by Mr. Ravindran Palaniappan, Senior Director, ASEAN Economic Cooperation Divison, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and Ms. Hong Ju Khee, Project Leader, CIMB ASEAN Research Institute. Ms. Haryati Hamdzah, moderated this session. This session discussed on the benefits and challenges of the coming ASEAN Economic Community AEC), and the suitable approach for young people in ASEAN to seize the opportunities along the process.

The Brainstorming Session was handled by the program director, the late Mr. Abu Qassim Nor Azmi, where he narrowed the discussion on the youth awareness, youth integration, youth in decision-making with the focus towards 2015.

On the same date, the participants were invited to attend ASEAN Food & Cultural Festival 2014 that were held in conjunction with ASEAN Day 2014 with variety of ASEAN cuisine prepared to all with the assistance from the embassies of ASEAN member states. The participants were also served with the multi-cultural performance.

On the 9th, the Concurrent Discussion : ASEAN Community 2015, the participants were divided to three groups. ASEAN Politic and Security, facilitated by Mr. Mohamad Raimi (ABIM) with the assistance of Prof Dr Jatswan S. Sidhu (Universiti Malaya) as appointed expert for the group. ASEAN Economic Transformation group discussion were facilitated by Mr. Ahmad Fahmi (ABIM) and assisted by appointed expert, Mr. Rushdi Abdul Rahim (MIGHT). The third group of ASEAN Youth Empowerment, was facilitated by Mr. Jufitri Joha and Prof. Madya Dr. Haslinda Abdullah (UPM) and Dr. Janice Nga (USM) were present as the appointed expert.

ASEAN Food and Cultural Festival in Conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Day Celebration

The Festival featured on variety of food from ASEAN member states collaboration with the embassies and CAYC Focal Point as well as Malaysia popular cuisine. During the Festival, many stall organized by respective representative offered various type of food. Besides, lots of colorful performances presented on that night. The selection of cultural performance represents country cultural perspective.

The festival officiated by the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Hj Yassin and attended by the ambassador and high commissioner of ASEAN member states in Malaysia. The Festival promotes the importance of cultural diversity in building a vibrant, prosperous and harmony community.

10,000 visitors visit the festival, and CAYC took the opportunity to spread the awareness on ASEAN Community and basic info on ASEAN.
