Malaysia International Youth Exchange (MIYE) 2014 “Culture for ASEAN”

The MIYE program hosted by the CAYC, International Youth Centre Kuala Lumpur (IYC), Malaysia Youth Council in Collaboration with The Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia on 21st to 26th May, 2013 in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. It is in conjunction with the 46th National Youth Day, in Malaysia and the Putrajaya Youth Festival 2014.

The activity brought together cultures and traditions among youth from the ASEAN countries for participants to share. It’s a unique opportunity for ASEAN to reflect our deepest values of cultures and traditions and to preserve the culture from extinct from the youth understanding of their own roots and culture.

89 youth attended this program and the age ranges for the participants are between 18 to 30 years old from ASEAN member states, Japan, Maldives, Nepal and Russia.

The six day program will gather all participants in Putrajaya where they will engage and learn about diversity and uniqueness of ASEAN cultures. Below are the key program highlights:

  1. i) Wau Workshop : The workshop aims to enlighten and strengthen the youth with the

knowledge of ASEAN Community 2015 and the role of youth as a global citizen in preserving culture and heritage

  1. ii) Mini Exhibition : Each participating country prepared exhibition materials (ie: musical instrument, traditional costume, traditional snacks, crafts) to introduce their culture and heritage during Putrajaya Youth Festival. Each respective country given an open booth.

iii) Performances: Participants from each country are performed traditional cultural shows 5 to 10 minutes with the objective to promote their country culture during Putrajaya Youth Festival. A team of ASWARA showcased their performances to promote Malaysia intercultural and diversify heritage.
